Well no duh... but to criticize on the merits of the content is one thing... but to merely call their presence in such a feature "boasting" is just cynical.

They have a ******* yard sign that proclaims their house runs on less energy than a blow dryer. If that's not a form of self-righteous attention-whoring, Donald Trump is a Cistercian apostle.

It's very easy to design a passive house that is unassuming and doesn't shout for attention like the one pictured. How the hell do these people think that the fact that their house is passive exonerates them? They have built and ugly and ostentatious house without any regard for their neighbourhood. Putting out that stupid sign in their yard really speaks volumes about what kind of people they are. They really are a prototypical example of the kind of Eco-Evangelist who puts off and angers the people they mean to convert.

I toured the Hanna (Honeycomb) House last Friday. On the one hand, I can appreciate the total commitment to the hexagon; but if I lived there I think I might wake up one night screaming -- just too much. I said this to my guide, who is the granddaughter of the original owners and spent a good bit of time in the house as a kid, and she smiled and laughed a bit then admitted, "yeah."

You can find many more photos of the exterior and some of the interior, here are a few of some details I haven't seen online elsewhere.

We call it the Maytag. Not to be confused with The Wurlitzer, aka the Marriott at 4th and Mission.
