sex and muscle building.

I tried a search on these forums, but didn't see a topic on this.

Very old question and probably a mythical concern, but how does sex control your hormones as it relates to building muscle?

If I do a big workout at the gym and have sex at night, do I lose testosterone needed to build muscles? Maybe sex is beneficial to building muscle instead. I don't know.

(I'm talking about vaginal intercourse and not masturbation, but maybe they have the same causes.)

this is a sign you're obsessed

would you really not have sex if you lost testosterone that affected your muscle mass?

^With sex or working out? If the latter, then the OP shouldn't worry. Sex is a good thang.

I don't think that it matters much, honestly. That being said, I heard T-Levels are highest a week or a bit more after the last ejaculation.

Dude, if you are considering giving up sex to gain more muscle you should really, really, rethink your values in life... Unless the sex is interfering with your sleep (i.e. you're not getting enough sleep because you stay up all night), I wouldn't worry about it.

I believe studies have shown that sex is good for test levels. And no, beating it up the night before has no effect.

Except during "that time" every month, I have sex almost every day. I wouldn't give it up, but I always wondered if this did anything positive or negative to my body. In reply to a post above, for this, but mostly work reasons, my sleep at night is terrible. Last night I went to bed at 7:30am. I was working all night. I don't know what to do. Now I'm going off topic, but if I manage to get 8 hours of sleep in the day instead, does that at least help? Does my body need a consistant 24-hour cycle or can I lose and then make up sleep later?

Probably one of the worst things for your body is not getting consistent, proper sleep. I remember reading somewhere that it can totally mess up your digestive system, plus it will raise cortisol over the long-term if it continues for a long time...

I know how you feel, I'll get serious bouts of insomnia. Best thing is to rough it out, stay up, then let yourself pass out the following day at a reasonable hour.

That sounds a bit extreme, lol. I don't think it's gonna turn you into a marathon runner physique wise, but I definitely shy away from doing above a jog, but not quite a sprint for an extended period of time (like most distance guys).

It plummets, precipitously. Your muscles will all wither. Never have sex again, ever.

Sleep is one of the most important parts of helping your body build muscle. There are so many chemical processes going on in your body while you sleep, many of which affect your metabolism, testosterone levels and metabolism. If exercise and nutrition are the two most important factors in health and fitness, sleep is the third.

+1 It's not worth the risk of burning the extra calories.
