Foods to bring home from NYC

Im visiting from Seattle over Presidents Day weekend. I love regional food and want to bring some NYC food back with me besides the obvious, bagels. I'm just taking a carry-on so I can't take any sauces, etc on the plane. Any suggestions?

And another thing, I'm planning on doing most of my exploring on Presidents Day. Will most places be open?

Yeaaaaa.... it's good but I can get that here too. I mean things that you can really only get in NYC. Shit, Id bring home a pizza if it was socially acceptable.

Well, these days, you can get most anything shipped, to anywhere, from anywhere. I was just looking to save you some cash.

Oh is foie gras cheaper there or something? I like it, the cheap.

I figure it is, since you can actually buy it at the retail level, it's closer to where most is raised domestically, and I figure NYC consumes the largest share of foie in the US outside of maybe Vegas or LA. Is there a place called D'Artanian's there? I think that's it. I know my local connection has it shipped in from back east.

Great ideas guys.

Would pastrami, brisket, etc be easy to bring home on a plane? Or would you need to cold ship it?

If it were for myself, I would bring bagels. Those NY bagels are insane. Even plain, cold.

If it's something to bring back to share in the office, I might get Rice to Riches or Magnolia cupcakes. 2 tourist traps which are still decent.

I agree. But getting Junior cheesecake and Magnolia Bakery seems to be part of the NYC tourist food map unfortunately. To me, it would be like going to Seatlle and bringing home some Starbucks coffee... There's way better NYC places than that (Eileen's is 10x better than Junior, Billy's is 10x better than Magnolia, etc...) but it's hard to know of the good spots when you don't live here. To use the same example, I wouldn't know where to go in Seattle to get some great local coffee.
