do you use fuel additives?

i'm talking about things like stp gas treatment, lucas oil, etc.

some of my friends swear by these, especially the fuel injector cleaners, others think they are worthless.

i noticed an increase in mpg after using lucas oil.

I'd be hesitant, I've heard some of them may actually be harmful. It's ok if it comes with the fuel, or if it's an octane booster or something.

I started using BG44k once a year a couple years back. Seems to make things run nicer for a few months. I'm at 123k + altitude, so any little boost helps.

BG 44K is good stuff. Chevron Techron is roughly the same thing but BG 44K is much more concentrated... and harder to find. Have to buy it from a dealer or repair shop (about $20-25/can). Also need a funnel to put it in the tank. Injector cleaner is a good idea on older cars, I wouldn't bother with newer cars if you use quality gas.

Currently on my first full tank with added injection cleaner. Can't say it has much improved yet, but perhaps when the whole tank is empty (half full now).

I had a stroked Harley that was running 11:1 compression so I had to use "108 Octane" IIRC. but generally, no.

Off topic but I swear by Mobil 1 for oil. Worth the additional expense.

i usually go royal purple or lucas oil for oil, and as far as "fuel treatment" goes every now and then i'll throw in a lucas oil treatment.

The only car I use fuel additives on is an old Jeep Cherokee I own. It's over 10 years old, big 4.0L inline 6 engine and it seems to help.

I would not use the additives with any of my other cars. I recommend checking the forums for your particular car for advice. NAXJA.org has been a great resource for me to keep a farm Jeep around.

for 6 months I tried adding a little bit of acetone to my Altima every fillup. I noticed no difference either way.

I had a car with stand alone running 25+psi and I could only use 94 Octane or the engine would literally detonate and I didn't put any of that crap in my car. And when your running 25+psi, your fuel system is the most important thing. So does your factory tuned car need any of that crap, definitely not.

power service cetane booster if i cant get high cetane diesel. I have a bottle of it in a cubby in the back Im also running german made castrol syntec, there are better options for my tdi, but its 505 and its been running fine. Ive had the car for about 15k kms, and ive averaged 49 mpg

No I do not, because:
*In Top Tier Gasoline-the detergent mix is better than ever before.
*The Oils of Today-especially full synthetics-have more than enough additives to keep modern engines healthy and happy.

For Instance: I use only BMW full synthetic And Shell Premium gasoline. I did use Kroger gas because it's on my way home and so much cheaper but it made my auto run "Different", back to shell and things are good again.

I truly believe that those additives are a complete waste of $$...

I use fuel injection cleaner every few oil changes or so. It's only like $7/treatment so I figure it's worth trying. If you want to mess with your car though, one thing I hadn't heard of being a big deal (unless your car is having problems with it) but people are having good luck with it is to go through and add extra grounding points with heavy duty wiring from your battery. Not sure how many cars have issues with this but people with Subarus (I just bought one) are saying that it makes a noticeable difference. So when I get a chance to take a look I will probably do that. If any improvement could be made there, it would be well worth the effort since everything about the car depends on the ability of electricity to flow unimpeded where it should (including strain on components like alternators, weak lighting, etc)
