In terms of wine- you got me. I am not a wine drinker. I prefer belgian beer and Cognac. If I drink Champagne, I like it dry. However, since my girl likes sec, I'll just order it and enjoy it with her.

Veal- just isn't happening, nor is lamb. Thank God, I am allergic to Lobster and shrimp (cockroach of the sea) and other shellfish.

Now, I think I have answered most of your questions. How about answering my original question...which sec or demi-sec Champagne would you recommend with my dinner?

Btw, which R&C restaurant have you been to that there was a problem?

Relais and Chateau is classy version of those business directories that most people get cold calls about. It really isn't an indication of anything.

I don't really understand how someone could like beef enough to constantly be buying from Lobels but hating veal and lamb, not to mention all shell fish. I mean, it's kind of hard to say you like food when like 50% of the menu of any michelin starred restaurant would be unsuitable for you. I'm guessing that rabbit and other game are out as well?

Saying shrimp are the cockroaches of the sea probably wouldn't get you too far with many chefs. In fact a know a couple who'd probably just tell you to fuck off.

Where exactly do you go in NYC and Chicago? I've seen sweaters in jacket and tie places many times.

Anyways, as per your question, I'm sure something like Femme would satisfy your wife's "sophisticated" taste.

I am allergic to shellfish.

No, I do not eat rabbit. I eat a lot of fish. In NY, we like Il Mulino for lunch and Daniel for dinner on Friday. Saturday is generally Dim-sum in the morning, sushi for lunch and Peter Luger's or Le Bernardin for dinner. Sunday is dim-sum, Viet for lunch then back to Columbus. There is usually pizza thrown in somewhere as well.

In Chicago, there is roast duck at the bbq house, Les Nomades (not strict with the dress code), Trotters, Everest, and Le Francais (not as strict with the dress code as they were in the mid 90s.) and of course pizza.

We pretty much stick to our favorites nowadays.

Thank you for the Femme recommendation. Hopefully, I can find a bottle to try it before hand.

For Columbus, the Refectory is good. Compared to restaurants in Chicago and NY-- it is not. For the area, it is probably the best. Fwiw, when I go to the nicest restaurant in town in a suit and some chump sits down in his "nice sweater" it just cheapens the experience. In NY and Chicago, restaurants have standards for dress.

You failed to grasp the points. 1) Columbus isn't Chicago, NYC or LA. Columbus is a large, boring Midwestern city. Get over it and stop trying to make it something it is not. 2) Congrats on being from LA. It's a real hotbed of culture.

I agree with your assessment of Columbus. Don't you expect more out of the capital of Ohio though? Cleveland and Cincinnati both have better restaurants than Columbus does!! It is just frustrating.

sec and demi-sec won't pair all that well with your menu until you get to the desserts. Having said that, if you like the wine and you like the food, who cares? we love the Renardat-Fache NV Bugey Cerdon Méthode Ancestrale Rosé and often have it as an apertif in the summer months. We've also had the Margaine, A. NV Champagne Traditionelle Demi-Sec and liked it. enjoy!

going to Bernardin without eating shellfish... sounds fun.

I would seem that shellfish happens to be the minority on the menu. There are far too many types of fish to limit oneself to a few shellfish.

As usual, you are wrong. You obviously have nothing better to do than to post on SF all day long. You made your recommendation for a demi-sec Champagne. Thank you. Now, kindly leave the thread unless you have another recommendation in terms of a Champagne.

If you ever make it to Le Bernardin--let me know.

Umm, I'd be shocked if you've been to Bernardin as many times as I've been there in a month.

As whnay would say, you're a small timer with small time tastes.

Make sure to have a nice capuccino after dinner too.

Another post in support of Moet, both the white star and nectar imperiale are easy to find and are decent for a demi sec champagne.
