Seiko Watches - Underrated? - Page 20

Here's one that's almost identical. The shape is a bit different and It doesn't have a see through back.

Which model is this? It reminds me of my grail watch, the Citizen Campanola CTS57-0701. BTW, my newest Seiko acquisition, the SARB045:

Don't understand this no love for cheaper Seikos - if by that you mean watches retailing at £250

I have two of these and they are doing a damn sight better than my Omega did. The Omega lasted 10 years with two costly repairs. I gave up on it in the end and bought a cheap chain store watch. Now I wear my two Seikos and enjoy them very much

Is Seiko underrated here? Don't know, but it shouldn't be.

I think there's a lot more variety in the 18mm category for straps, though.

Only problem with the snka watches in that series is that you really can't swap out the bracelet, and the bracelet is really crappy. Edit: I own the SNKA19K1, which is silver and has roman XII and VI on the face. The strap sucks.

Seiko watches, and especially their automatics, are very underrated in general, but there is probably more love here than in the real world. Great bang for the buck, I have four of them and wear three of them pretty regularly.

Try to get one with a solid bracelet instead of the folded link bracelet. Unless you want to swap in a leather strap, in which case just make sure the lugs are at least 18mm wide. And 20mm is probably better unless going for a slim dress watch.

I can understand the higher regard for Seiko v Tissot/Movado....but Seiko vs Oris, Longines, Ball, and B&R? Maybe a Grand Seiko vs Oris et al....

Agreed. You can buy a new Seiko automatic diver for less than $200, and have a classic watch which will last for 20 years. My observation, having frequented the Seiko Citizen Forum for years, is that most serious Seiko fans are primarily interested in dive watches. The SKX007, for example is an iconic watch. Go to a department store in the mall, and 95% of their Seikos will be fashion watch type stuff. Those look cheap to my eye. Part of the disconnect here is that Seiko fans are picturing their diver or their classic Seiko 5, while the detractors are thinking of junky fashion watches. My challenge to a Seiko detractor is this: Buy an SKX007, 009, or Monster and come back in a few months to tell us what you think about Seiko. No, it's not an Omega, but it's not $5000.

As for the Swiss stuff, like it or not, you are mostly paying for image marketing. Swiss watch fans should do a little research on just how much Asian content there is in that high end timepiece. OTOH, the Seiko is an honest item. A medium to high quality Asian watch with a great tradition and a great bang for the buck.

Seiko Military watches are awesome.
Sure I own more expensive watches but I always tend to wear my two Seiko Militaries

I have the olive green version of this watch and have been wearing it almost daily since I got it about a year ago
I agree with Mr.K its a little small, but dam its so comfortable and clean looking.

There's actually an upgraded version that I recently bought, I can't remember the model name I think it's G15 or something like that. It has a bigger face, and takes 22mm lugs which now looks perfect for me. I wear the bigger version daily for work, and the smaller one for weekends and trips, love them both to bits.
I see some wearers here replaced the straps with a Nato one, I think i will definately be ordering one too for my smaller one.

Here's a pic, the bigger G15 came with a nylon strap, I replaced it with a leather one.
