Seiko Watches - Underrated? - Page 16

Where can I find more information about modding Seikos with different dials and such? I'd love to get a Seiko 5 and play with the looks a bit.

Ughh, just when I thought I had definitely settled on making my next watch purchase a Sinn 556...

Although a 556 and the Blue Spark would fulfill different roles, I can't figure out which one I want more. How do you like yours?

May I ask which strap that is on the blue spark? In reference to Warren G's watch.

I really like mines. However, this is my first watch. So I have no experiences to give a comparison. You can't go wrong with either watch. The Sinn is really nice for the money tho. Yeah, one of my concerns with the Blue Spark is the lack of lume. I really love the way it looks though. Some might find it too plain, but the classic Seiko dress dial with the more modern blued hands really does it for me. I wonder if it's a little too dressy for daily wear though.

I wanted a Stowa Antea but now I'm trying to figure out why I shouldn't get a Blue Spark and an Alpinist for the same price.

having owned 2 Sinn 556s I can tell you that the lume lasts for about 5 minutes.

Aesthetically speaking, I am not particularly fond of the Antea. Some people have hangups about Seiko as a company, for whatever reason, but if that's not stopping you, I don't see why you shouldn't just go for the two Seikos. I've only heard good things about both watches, and I was just thinking about how I wish I could get both. Damn my lack of money. :I


What is your impression of the watch? It seems silly now that I think about it, but lack of lume isn't really a dealbreaker for me, just a consideration. And why is it that you have owned two 556's?

To no one in particular: do you think that the Blue Spark is a little too much on the dressier side for someone who is not a working professional? I'd hate for my watch to look out of context. I don't dress like a slob, but I certainly don't dress in anything that could be called more than casual, seeing as how I'm currently a sophomore in college.

Hey I'm also a sophomore in college. I wear my Seiko pretty much everyday. I normally wear ocbd sleeves roll up, slim raw denim, and tan pebble long wings/plain toe boots. Even on my lazy day when I'm just wearing a white vneck and jack purcell. I still wear the Seiko with a navy-grey or olive Nato. I just think the white dial is more versatile. Imho, the Seiko's 6R15 movement is good as any ETAXXXX. With the money you save, you can get yourself some suede wingtips

I had a (older?) seiko 5 superior, which from my understanding is a higher end Asia-only model of the 5 line. I assume it was a grey-market as I've seen no where from which to replace it. I've no idea which model, but it had only "XII" for 12, with a smoke face and thin hands. It was very nice, and it had enough weight that it felt like a "real" watch. It wasn't overly large (I'm not a big fan of the huge diving watches, unfortunately, and I have smallish wrists) and it was casual enough for everyday but dressed up alright. Sadly, it was lifted off of my desk and never seen again. At least I got it almost free at a garage sale! I replaced it with an Invicta Pro Diver (also almost free used) which is larger, but just as solid. I for some reason believe the movement is Seiko sourced but I am not sure. Either way, both Japanese automatics have been enjoyable in my opinion. I cannot compare to a Suisse or German watch though.

I needed to replace a Seiko (quartz) that got stolen so I picked up two from Hong Kong that I really enjoy. They are both Seiko 5's one regular and one "Superior 23 Jewels," I don't have pics at the moment but they look nice, run smoothly, and together cost less than $150.
