Awesome! I worked at a Fiat and Lancia dealership over the summer in Paris for a month and some of their new cars are quite cool. The 500 is a great little car that I could see becoming popular in the states and the new Lancia Delta is really nice.

This "merger" is just the 21st century version of Renault/AMC.

The last time they merged with an Italian automaker didn't go so well.

Chrysler has a history of failing at this, but this is a good move on Fiat's part in my mind. They have little they are risking and stand to gain quite a bit.

Didn't go well becauase Iocca let his love for all things Italian and Tuscan get infront of good business judegement. Did he think buying an Italian Super Car manufacturer the was same as buying a loaf of crusty Italian bread?

Boooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I've been waiting for the 500 to come here. And now.... it'll get bastardized into some Chrysler abortion.

Third course: It tasted of dying flowers. Also terrible.

From what I read, its not a merger in your usual use of the term. They'll share a couple engines, and some of the Fiat family of cars might be sold in Chrysler's shops.

And as much as I covet an Alfa, they just announced the tranny in the 8C is being recalled. Maybe I'll just buy one as a piece of art.

I guess the question is whether Chryslers with efficient Fiat engines etc will sell in the US, and whether it will be enough to save the company even if they do. I think Fiat is quite well placed as a company just now and will hopefully benefit from getting into the US. Americans deserve the chance to buy a Fiat...they're the coolest small cars around (with the exception of BMWs MINI)

The problem with engines and all is that it would take years for combined product to make it to the market. And I don't have much hope for those - anyone remember chrysler/maserati tc

On the other hand, we can probably get 500 and brera here within 12 months... I think maserati was planning to come back 2009/2010 anyway...
