Default OK to wear black shoes with khakis?

Would it be too weird to wear black leather shoes with khakis and a button down shirt or is the usual brown or burgundy shoes? Would the belt be black as well?

no problems as long as you match your belt with your shoes...

I think it also depends on what shade of khaki. Personally, I can't see how light cream khaki and black shoes go well together at all. The darker the pant color, the more apt I am to wear black shoes.. And yes, match those shoes and belt..

I'm of the exact opposite. Wearing dark khakis, I think it looks odd to wear black shoes. IMO, the lighter the khaki the easier it is to wear darker shoes.

I think black leather shoes and khakis are fine as long as the shoes are not too dressy for the pants.

Loafers or driving mocassins maybe, but otherwise you are going to look like you work in the IT department.

As long as the shoe is super sleek, you can pull this off. It has to look like the shoe is the focal point of your wardrobe, not an afterthought. But the same is true every time you put a shoe on, isn't it?

This seems a thread that would be more useful with images.

black would work well, as long as it's not too formal; i.e., shiny patent leather or nice pair of cap toe.

Yeah, agree with vitaminc.
Although, have to say I've worn khakis with a captoe

This was posted yesterday by a forum member. To me this is too dressy a shoe for khakis. I agree that it should be an informal shoe ie. loafer, driving moc. It is a beautiful shoe though.

Wouldn't do it with a bal, but have no problem with a captoe blucher in a lighter shade of brown. Both khakis and captoe bluchers have a military vibe to them, so they can pair well together.

Maybe I was just overly-saturated with Gap advertising the past 10 years, but then I see khakis with black shoes/belt all i can think of is "Gap, Gap, Gap".

I'm surprised this thread supports black shoes and light brown cotton pants here on this dandy forum. Why would anyone wear black shoes in the day time unless he had to wear black shoes in the daytime? Once a year, for a change of pace, maybe, but otherwise forego black if you are serious about dressing well.
