Martini Online MTM - Tailor Store - Review (Pictures added)

PICTURES ADDED

Hey everybody.

After approximately 3 weeks of waiting, I received my first order of a MTM shirt from Tailor Store. With respect to the spirit of the internet, I intent to write a review of my purchase experience and hopefully it will be usefully to my fellow members. Though I waited almost 3 weeks for my order, the story begins almost 2 months ago...

As a university student, I rarely buy any suits. Like most of my friends, our closet is filled with A&F, Hollister, American eagle, and my personal favorite, Polo Ralph Laurent. As my university years coming to an end, I started to realize that I couldn’t possibly dress anything with a moose on it to work. So I purchased my first piece of suit, erh, from Zara. (Well, second actually, but that’s another story) I know, I know, but I really like their cuts, slim and tall, just like me.

Now, a suit with no shirt is pointless. So again I start to search for the perfect shirt. I actually own a few shirts already, around six or seven. Two are from Polo, others are from AE; but none of them are white, or anything conservative enough to wear a suit anyway.

Finding a perfect shirt is hard; none of my current shirts fits me perfectly. The polo ones are way too baggy, and the AE ones are really tight around the neck. I started my search at Zara, since I was hoping that their shirt has the same cut as their suit. The fit was alright, but the fabric is just awful. Then I went to Winners, (A Canadian cheap version of off 5th, with higher prices and fewer selections.) there were lots shirts, but the colors were off; only a few in white, but with wired design. And that was the end of my department store search.

I always wanted to try custom made shirts, as they were the best shirts a man can every get. The only problem is, you guessed it, the PRICE. After some research, I realized a well made MTM shirts costs more than a Playstation 3, F$&@ that. But as a cunning consumer, I refuse to deny the possibility of buying a well priced MTM shirt.

After some research, I found this forum. Thanks to the search function, I finally found what I was looking for, ONLINE MTM STORES. There are a few out there that members of this forum recommend, but some takes forever to process the orders. (Yes, that’s it) Many recommend Tailor Store, though a few had doubts about the quality of service. But then again, I figured that this tailor is still new, unless they want to take a huge dump on the biggest market in the world (North America), they wouldn’t funk up my order.

So I ordered. A basic white shirt, nothing fancy. Basic fabric, I think I order the white oxford. Slim cut overall, normal cut on the sleeves. 40 for the shirt, 10 for the shipping and that’s it, didn’t get taxed when I got the package, I was quite surprised. (I am from Toronto)

Overall impression: Great fit, couldn’t be happier. Though a few adjustments are needed for my next order, but this is not their fault. The shirt is quite slim, not skin tight of course, but slim enough to make me a happy man. The overall cut is good. Cut around the armpit area is a bit tight. When I raise my arm, the lining of the shoulder rose up, as if there were a shoulder pad. The quality of the fabric is well worth the money, and the sewing overall is pretty good. (By my standard)

Rating:
Cut: 8/10
Fabric: 9/10
Selection (they just added some new fabrics, 99 in total): 8/10
Overall impression: 7.5/10
Service: I never called them so I don’t know.
Shipping and packaging: 8/10
Buy Again: YES YES YES

Note: they just added removable collar stays, with a cool 5.99

I just washed the shirt, so I will take some pictures later.

If you aren't already, you should consider a career in internet marketing.

You think I am promoting the company? I am very disappointed. The only reason that I share my personal experience with all of you is I received help and information from this forum, so now I am doing the same, hoping that other members will find my experience useful. For your information, I don’t post much is because my time is quite valuable, though I am only a student.

I, for one, thank you for your time. It can raise some eyebrows because your second post is about a single company with favorable review and without pictures. Heck, I did a search and 300 posts later, I'm still trying to figure out certain aspects of MTM. The lack of time is not a valid reason enough for a low post count. FYI, I am a med student, currently studying for the board, and I still have time to post inane threads about anything and everything.

However, I am convinced that you're just sharing your excitement with others. Good post!

macuser. Your avatar is quite interesting. Looks like some perverted scene out of Boticelli's paintings .

Thank you Coho.

I am more of a viewer rather than a poster. School is tough, especially for a senior. I am in Actuarial Science, lots professional exams.
Anyway, I will try to post some pictures. Still waiting for the shirt to dry though.

yeah, good luck with it. Actually, post some pics and fly away, far away. This place is like the Mafia, and in the words of Michael Corleone, "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in. .."

They've been around for a while actually. I ordered a shirt from them about 3 years ago. The shirt is still in good shape, although I did take it to a tailor after it arrived to make it a bit shorter, but I'm pretty darn impressed with the sewing seeing as almost every other shirt I've had for that long has loose threads coming up.

The only shitty thing is that we Swedes seem to pay about 25% more than US customers because the US prices seem to have been set when the exchange rates were a lot higher.

I missed that in the other thread, thank you for bringing it up!

But yeah, this thread is useless without pics.

I actually used this website for the first time late last year bc I needed a slim white shirt and was having a very difficult time finding a rtw one. My impressions of the shirt itself were probably not as favorable as yours though I don't regret trying them out and might have another shirt made in the future.

The one thing that really disappointed me was the collar and the lack of removable collar stays. I thought the collar stays were a little crooked and bent from shipping and there wasn't anything I could do about it. Also, I chose the white poplin fabric and found it to be of fairly low quality. It wrinkles instantly especially at the elbows which is a little frustrating.

I really did like their website and the quick shipping was excellent. This is very refreshing after using jantzen's order process. My advice would be to pay extra for the removable stays and get the oxford instead of the poplin. I've been meaning to give them another shot probably with an oxford or pattern and see how it goes. Thanks for the review.

It seems all of their "Superior" fabrics have "easy care treatment", which actually sounds more negative than positive to me.

I ordered the oxford, the fabric is quite soft. Yeah they JUST made the removable collar stays available; mine doesn't have them of course. My shirt was quite well packaged; I should have taken some pictures of the packaging, erhh, maybe next time.
