Default swollen throat dangly thing...

A while back I had a huge uvula (the thing that hangs in your mouth). It was literally laying on my tongue. I didn't want to say anything about in fear of going to the doctor, getting a blood test and having it screened for drugs. So I just drank a ton of water and it was gone by the next day. Whew. I was happy. But, for some reason I was curious as to what caused it and decided to google it and stumbled upon this link and thought it would be nice to share it with you guys. So don't freak the hell out the next time this thing is as big as your thumb like I did when I saw it.

Right here

If you don't want to click that, I'll sum it up for you. Lots of things cause the uvula to flip the hell out. They include: drinking, allergies, smoking, and all sorts of things that you would expect to cause it. The swelling has something to do with dehydration. I don't know why, but it does. The best way to fix it is to "drink a shit ton of water". I looked it up on a few other sites and the use of cocaine can make it huge. Something to do with all the sniffing and stuff.

I don't know why I posted that, but I thought it was interesting.

thanks - I have had this happen to me a half dozen times. the first time I freaked out completly and utterly. it always happens during or after a long flight, a few days after I have smoked a cigar, and had too much to drink - all things that dry you out.

hang in there, GT... don't let the overbearing, self-centered, control freak, hateful, spiteful, hellspawn bitch bring you down....

Question

Oddly what kind of a health plan do you have where they screen your blood test for drugs if you don't give premission for that?

I think that all doctors screen blood/urine for drugs on anyone. I'm pretty sure it would have come back clean, I just didn't want to chance it.

I had an alergic reaction to some funky drug (perscription) I was given while being treated for strep throat while deployed to Bosnia a few years ago. Because of the reaction my uvula swelled up, cracked, and started bleeding. I was sleeping when it started and almost choked to death from the blood. I spent the next 12 hours hooked up to an IV to drive the toxins out of my body. Was one of the most miserable experiences of my life.

I hear the way to deal with a swelled uvula is to heat up a paperclip until it's red hot and just jam it right in there.

speaking of which, i had the same thing happen to my big toenail - blood blister lived under the nail for a few weeks, was making its way out to the end. yesterday when i was clipping my nails, the nail surface over the blister felt kindof...flaky or something. so of course i picked it off. ew, there was this old nasty junk under there, i guess it was dried blood. so i picked it out. now i have a hole in my toenail. so that's kindof gross.

i guess if i had poked it with a paperclip early on, this wouldn't have happened?

****edit: dammit, why am i still on this thread.
