I wear either socks or brown suede driving moccasins as slippers at home - you might have seen them, I can't remember.
Velvet slippers would be betterfor guests but I would need to find them in a very narrow width and modify them myself. Moulded Shoe got me the Alden driving mocs and did the work for me, so I used those. If Alden made a pair of velvet slippers in a narrow width and a nice color, I would probably switch.

Did you have an homosexual experience while getting your morning coffee?? Are you going to wear them with a patterned robe, an ascot and that nice fez you got in Turkey?

My father wears velvet loafers, he also sports a mustache from time to time. You're in your 30s you bastard!

Do Italians also not wear shoes around the house? Everyone was always barefoot, in socks, or in slippers at my parents' parties. For guests to wear shoes would have been barbaric.

They're gorgeous, but I still haven't tried on a pair to see how they fit. I wish I could get my wife to wear them; the women's versions are awesome.

Please let Belgian loafers be the next 'It' shoe on SF. The side-gusset loafers gave me quite a scare.

There are actually two firms, both based in Norwich. Between them they make virtually all the UK slippers, regardless of label

Your wife is a gem, listen to what she says. Velvet slippers are very gay art critic receiving young Russian ephebe in his XVIème pad with a mix of modern and Louis XV furniture. Do you wear Cartier gold glasses? I'm wearing a robe and leather slippers while typing this and not feeling a twinge of contradiction, slippers are at the amazingly comfortable point where they're mainly made of holes, I hate to think I'll have to replace them.

Even when cooking for a dinner party? I usually end up wearing my cooking clogs the whole time.

I totally wreak of middle class. The thought of wearing velvet slippers while at home (entertaining guests or otherwise) is just fascinating.

Edit: even more fascinating is that there are a number of people who know much about them.

Grecian or mule slippers are a good alternative if you find velvet loafers too effeminate or ghey.

I think you are making more out of this than you need to. Some people don't wear shoes in their house and bare feet or socks at dinner parties doesn't really look right. I don't think it has anything to do with class - middle, upper or any other.

I imagine it is all a result of rather too much pink wine drinking ...
