Never been, but people I know refer to it as "lanza-grotty" so I'm guessing it didn't impress them.

Didn't even know Lanzarote was a place.

Will you take me to Ireland?

I can point you towards some sick places in Ireland...never heard of latter.

I haven't been, but read Lanzarote by Michel Houellebecq. Going on that, I would expect a wasteland full of bisexual German tourists.

Lanzarote is one of the 'holiday in the sun' destinations favoured by many Brits along with Majorca and Benidorm. Just expect sun, booze and chips (ie fries).

Yeah, except the people are even worse on holiday, it makes me embarrassed to be english - at home it is only like it is in those resorts on the weekends. If it really is like most of Majorca or Benidorm the most apt description would be "hell on earth by the sea" or something like that.

I guess you could think of Panama City Beach but in Spain and full of British people.

Tenerife and Grand Canaria are much nicer. Lanzarote is filled with noisy lager-louts from the North of England and massively over-weight oiled-up Germans. If you have a brush cut, plenty of tats and like to fight you may enjoy yourself

The upside is that most of the bars will carry Premier League games

Life is not an illogicality; yet it is a trap for logicians. It looks just a little more mathematical and regular than it is; its exactitude is obvious, but its inexactitude is hidden; its wildness lies in wait. GK Chesterton

So I accidently landed on the some talk radio show last week (he's a famous talk radio consumer advocate who I can't remember right now) and someone booked a week long stay in Ireland, with transatlantic flight, and a rental car, for like $600-700 per person. I think. Apparently you can go there, cheap, at the moment.
