Default Re: Shoe Polish Recommendations - help picking the right color ...

This thread comes in handy for my two new shoe acquisitions ...I would really appreciate help with picking the right color of shoe polish for the two. First is a pair of Allen Edmonds "Tan" (model Dryden) shoes and the other is a pair of Martegani Brown shoes.

When I look at the Meltonian shoe cream colors, for the Allen Edmonds, it appears that the "Cognac" would be the closest. Then, there is a "Mid-Tan" from Kiwi which appears to be the closest in color.

For the Martegani, it appears (to be easier to choose) I can go with the "Brown" from Kiwi, or the Meltonian Brown.

Would these color choices (like "Cognac" and "Mid-Tan") be available in retail stores (brick & motor)? - would like to save on the shipping. Plus I have come across Kiwis in stores here (Houston), but not the Meltonian. Many thanks.

For light tans Lobb Ltd (St James St) does a very good polish their number 4 I think. It is less orange than the Kiwi Light Tan. It also shines quickly and well.

I agree that the Brown from Kiwi looks like a match for the other shoe but I enjoy adding a few polishes of contrasting tans especially at the toe to deepen the colour.

Speaking about cremes and polishes, I have a problem with a leather article. It's basically a coin purse with a keyring that's in brown of a family members. The problem is that when I apply Lexol cleaner, polish - it seems all the brown colors come off and then what happens is the color is now darker but the leather is no longer soft and instead harder. Trying to use Meltonian Cream or Kiwi Shoe polish didn't help as all it did was it seemed like dark water going into a piece of cloth. It seems like I need to add something on top of the leather to coat it before I can even use the polish or cream, any ideas what I can use? Thanks!
