I'm currently looking for a place that sells quality fabrics in a very large range of colors. The current place I get the fabric from doesn't have blue gingham. But yes, I am definitely interested in blue gingham as well since I currently don't own a blue gingham pocket square. My fabric selection right now is slim. I have a lime green gingham and pink gingham. My solid linen that I have are periwinkle, avocado, and solid pink. I'd like to get some printed Kalamkari with intricate block designs but a 5 meter bolt is $550. Not cheap.

Especially since I'm on an optometry student's budget and my financial aid is intentionally $6,000 less than the estimated living requirement (per year). Yeah, my school tries to get us to budget and forces us to really get family help in paying for school. I also have no idea how spending an hour - two hours per day making pocket squares is going to affect my studies.

Dude, I think you need to take some business courses in addition to optometry.

How long does it take you to make (and sell) one pocket square? In addition to cutting and sewing, factor in the time you will spend taking pictures, posting on SF, answering endless PMs and keeping track who's who, dealing with buyers who like this but not that and want it yesterday...

How much profit can you possibly make selling $16 (or even $18 or $20) pocket squares when you include the cost of all materials and tools (no just fabric), postage, packaging, paypal fees...?

If you only make one square/day (and it takes you an hour!! or even less), I think you should revisit your business model. If you are doing this for fun and it's simply a relaxing hobby, then great. But if you're trying to finance your education, you are better off flipping burgers for $8/hour.

It's partly because it's relaxing hobby, it can be done from home, and it beats flipping burgers. I was making one square per day at first but with time, I've gotten more efficient at making these. It takes me about [redacted to keep information asymmetrical between buyer and seller] minutes for one and I usually do it right before bed time while I watch the news (multitasking). It also helps put me to sleep. Time Posting on SF is the same since I'm now spending more time on here than on other SF threads (an opportunity cost where the sum is zero). I'm raising prices to slow demand so that demand is in line with my studies. We'll see. So far, it beats work/study where they only pay $9 an hour.

But yeah, I took tons of econ classes in undergrad so I understand what's going on. We'll see after this quarter if my grades took a beating. I'm pretty sure I'll be studying during those weeks when I have hard exams upcoming.

In terms of opportunity cost, this is my best option. Being a health profession person, I can't flip burgers because I know what evaporated oil particles in the air does to your lungs. And I don't want to drive to work because I live in a large metropolitan area (Fullerton/LA/Anaheim) where the cost of sitting in traffic is high. I did eBay for 5 years before optometry school so taking photos was easy. But eBay was integrated. SF is not. So yeah, the information management side is tricky but I'm getting the hang of it.

I'll be taking a short break for Thanksgiving and an exam next week. I'm sorry about this. I'll still make them but at a much slower rate. Also, the demand for red gingham is starting to peter out and I will introduce the green gingham some time next week.

Also, the fabric is NOT pre-shrunk. Please do not machine wash or machine dry these. Shrinking will ruin the roll and will flatten it. In fact try not to get them dirty so as to obviate the need for cleaning.

I am all out of red gingham check cotton. Everyone on the reserve list will get theirs and I will notify you when I get more fabric. I also am getting blue gingham in soon along with a light purple gingham. As well as navy linen. I might have to raise prices once more.
