That used to be my dream. We had a bouldering cave in my dorm at boarding school because the houseparent was a climbing nut. Our school wall was awesome too. 40ft high with a huge roof and awesome overhangs. I was a hardcore climber in my teens. I need to get back in to it once i have more time. I just hate not being able to climb hard stuff anymore though.

Suited, nice enough space. Thanks for posting an urban dwelling like that.

It's fine. I was being facetious. But if it was my place, I wouldn't have lights like that. Maybe one iconic piece in a corner but not 2 halogen lamps.

Yea, the lamps aren't anything special. Both combined were under $100. I wanted to have some drapes made for the windows, but I was convinced that it would take an almost perfect replication of what I saw in my mind for it to not look stupid. Factor that in with the price, and the fact that I'm renting = a no go.

Much better. But the lamps need to go--at least don't position them so symmetrically and front-and-center. Also, is there a way you can evenly distribute the seating so it doesn't look like you've put a bunch of chairs in a circle for group therapy?

The lamps could go on the opposite wall, by the table. They'd be much more out of sight. I'd like to get new furniture all together. I have a 19lb cat with big claws so I don't know how much I can justify spending. Something with metal legs so the fabric is elevated a little off the ground would be the best fit, but I think I'm going to wait until I know I'm going to stay in a city for a while before buying anything nicer. I don't plan on staying here permanently. Columbus is so damn cheap, though. For what I pay here I couldn't get a 300 sq ft studio in Manhattan.

So my roomie is also my landlord. Buys old houses in transitional/gentrifying neighborhoods and fixes them up. Does a lot of DIY (and, occasionally, I do some too). So here is where I live now. It's a bit rough around the edges compared to the other homes and apartments shown here, but I like it.
And there's very little 'antiquing'. It's just old. It's about 16 rooms, was built 90 years ago by a Doctor who ran his practice in what is now the kitchen, and was abandoned when my landlordroomie bought it. ![]() Kitchen ![]() Where the DJ set up for the house warming party. ![]() |

This will probably be my last contribution to SF Cribs since there's not much more to show, but one of the things I love best about my house is the media center I've installed. In my basement I have a 19" cabinet filled wit 4x 4 terabytes of NAS storage connected to a wired gigabit network all through the house. The network is in every bedroom, the living room and home theater.
![]() The storage is used for music, pictures, movies and tv-shows. It is accessible through mediacenter PCs in every room running Ubuntu in combination with XBMC software utilizing the Aeon skin. So, how does it look? You can select the backgrounds for the skin yourself, all in true 1080p full HD resolution. The main menu has the choices for: Music, Settings, TV-Shows or as shown here, FILMS: ![]() When you select FILMS ofcourse you enter into the Movie menu where you can select the movies you have stored on your storage facility. Aeon is connected to IMDB, and downloads all relevant information automatically when you purchase a new movie, including a background. Below is an example of what the 'Dark Knight' looks like: ![]() For the Music background I have chosen a picture of Eddie, the most valued band member of Iron Maiden: ![]() The TV-Series standard background is from the show Mad Men: ![]() So, when we enter into the TV-series menu, of course you can select different shows. Like Entourage here: ![]() When you want to see a particular episode, you browse to the season you'd like and then you can select any episode you'd want from the following menu: ![]() All the software I use is completely free under a public license, the only hardware you'd have to buy is enough storage and an reasonably powerfull media center PC in every room you'd want to access all this. But I have to warn you, it can work addictive to have so many options, it gets hard to chose what you want to watch! |

Roy, you have incredible taste. Thank you for the pictures. By the way... what size is that TV? Looks kinda small.
