i rarely ever wear a shirt under

1. i dont' sweat much
2. i hate how the button shirt clings to the undershirt
3. you can see the outline of the undershirt
4. depending on the thickness/color of the button shirt you can SEE the undershirt

A undershirt is a must during hot summer days in the south.

I usually go for the v-neck and have recently started using zimmerli which are lighter in weight.

I wear them under my nicer shirts mostly so they don't become stained. never under regular t-shirts. i prefer v-neck, but occassionally wear crew neck.

up until recently, I primarily bought hanes or fruit-of-the-loom. always loved the fit of the ribbed tank tops (wifebeaters), but couldn't wear them under my nicer shirts because they didn't have underarm protection.

If it's a white shirt (easily stained at the armpits), if the shirt is sheer or would show sweat easily, if the shirt against skin would be uncomfortable when you sweat, if you have very bad-smelling sweat, if chest hair would be visible otherwise, if you would be cold otherwise, you probably should wear an undershirt. One that fits properly, so that it doesn't bunch up and wrinkle the shirt or add major bulk.

Normal sweaters are not collared (cuffs aren't as easily soiled) and sometimes only are worn for a few hours at a time. That's how it might be okay to wear a sweater twice before cleaning, if one wears an undershirt.

Did anybody comment on how the article equates "t-shirt" with "undershirt"? If the t-shirt doesn't look like an undershirt and adds a nice touch of color to the outfit (and maybe covers chest hair and shortens a long neck, too), there's nothing wrong with visibility. Hatred of the look doesn't make sense.

Today I'm wearing a casual button-up shirt and have found a problem I never noticed during the winter when I was wearing wifebeaters: this shirt is rubbing my nipples raw.

Same here, except I always wear cotton. I probably have an undershirt on except for about one hour each day. Nothing feels better than a wife beater.

Always with a dress shirt. It improves the drape of the dress shirt. It also hides most lens pencil erasers.

The Under Armour V-neck serves a purpose without the insulating properties of cotton.

Always. Fabric and body fluids don't work together.

+1, except for the sweating part. I don't understand paying so much for top notch cotton shirting and then preventing it from touching 60-70% of what it's supposed to cover. And I live in Houston.

Undershirts suck. I love wearing my white dress shirt fully unbuttoned and pulled free (not tucked in) on a hot summer day. The breeze on my chest/stomach is a nice feeling.
