Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

So, a while back there was some discussion about a few YYPH pieces sold second-hand with misspelled tags reading "INSTRCTIONS" and "ETIQETTE" instead of "INSTRUCTIONS" and "ETIQUETTE." As an additional data point, here's another one in the wild. Image from (edit : removed) : I've never seen...

Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

I'm glad I'm one of the few natural size 4s around here. Always on the lookout for the AW08; the girl and I tried on so much stuff when the flagship store on Gansevoort was still open. Lovely sales staff -- we had no $$$ and looked it, but they treated us like royalty. And then a year --...

Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

I picked up that last jacket -- the one with the multiple lapels -- on a whim a while back. Because it wasn't as outré as my other Yohji stuff, I thought "oh, I might use this occasionally." As it turns out, I find myself wearing it with all sorts of outfits for just that reason --...

Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

Quick photo of the variant "parachute jacket" we were discussing, so you can see the shoulder and back hem attachment points. Had to amp up the brightness in the photo -- the color is a true black, not the blue shown. HN-J04-104 : 59% wool, 17% rayon, 12% linen, and 12% ramie Below the break...

Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

Read the labels, and read all the way through, because Yohji is a magnificently perverse bastard. I own a pair of ramie / rayon trousers from SS07, and the care tag actually says "in the event of cleaning, it is required to remove all buttons from this garment". I am not joking. These...

Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

I own one of the variant jackets I think you're referring to -- it's similar to the one davidlee posted, but there are some interesting differences. You could think of it as the more "formal" variant, I suppose. :) It's unvented, with flap pockets instead of patch pockets, the buttons are...

Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

These three pieces had all better go to the same size-3 Yohji devotee, because I want -- nay, demand -- to see the fit pics with the whole suit.

There are physical stores which stock Grinders (at least, I've bought them at now-defunct brick-and-mortar stores) so they are out there. I don't believe they have their own stores, though. Anyway, I may be getting off-topic for this thread. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. ;)

Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

As a guy with EEE-width feet, I sympathize. Some thoughts on other footwear complementary to the YY "look" : If you like the look of the Docs but need more width, I suggest taking a look at the Grinders brand of boots, which are similar in style and price point but have a wider standard...

Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread)

In addition to those Parker listed, I'll also point out that Forward has some good YYPH pieces from time to time. There's a great size 2 jacket currently on sale for $500 (original ~$1300) -- for some reason, Forward describes it as "plush cloth," but it's actually Yohji's signature black...

How Much Attention Do You Pay to "Your" Coloring?

When I get angry or frustrated, my face becomes somewhat red. For this reason, I always make sure I have a spare shirt on hand to keep my colors complementary if I am angered.

    The Worst Look

Allow me to quote the relevant dialogue. As always, Jeeves was on the right side of that particular trend. Jeeves: I assumed it had got into your wardrobe by mistake, sir, or else that it had been placed there by your enemies. Bertie: I'll have you know, Jeeves, that I bought this in...

    Linen Sport Coat Question

As long as we're confessing our various heresies: I think a blue shirt might work nicely and keep you from being too monochromatic. A lighter chambray will seem odd, though -- try a medium blue. I like a nice spread collar, no buttondown. Gray wool trousers are virtually always a good choice.

    The Worst Look

Good God, the suit-with-backpack look. I swear I see this at least once a day, and I cannot fathom the thought process that produces it.

    Dry Cleaners break buttons

I see that stubloom has already contributed to this thread, but he's too humble to point to his previous, definitive answer to the question at hand. http://www.styleforum.net/t/7738/dry-cleaners-shirt-launderers#post_3682194 The fault, dear whatmatrix, is not in your buttons, but in your...

Have two shoes--where to go from here?

As my sainted grandmother used to say, "you're never rich enough to buy cheap shoes." That's a fine selection of shoes, any of which will probably outlive the both of us. :) Of course, your next mission is to look for matching belts. Good luck!

    What happened to Brooks Brothers?

At Turnbull & Asser, they keep a full range of try-on shirts (one of each size and fit they carry) in the dressing rooms. They'll happily let you take a shirt from the packaging, but will suggest the try-on shirt in the same size and cut because, and here's the important bit, the try-on...
