Fur and leather from endangered species

I'm confused by this thread. OP asks about whether wearing endangered animal hide is wrong, then moves to state that its unethical to wear animal hide from creatures that are not used for food/died of natural causes, THEN moves to say that its unethical to wear animal hide of the animals HE...

Leather Soles on nice shoes: to protect or not to protect?

Which makers? I'd be interested to know as well... so that I can avoid these makers, or petition them. It's ridiculous, and reeks of anti-competition to me - 'if they Topy their shoes, then we'll lose out on resoling!' If I can virtually destroy a pair of shoes through heavy use, or pick up an...

Fur and leather from endangered species

Most animals that are skinned alive are not done so specifically for the fur industry. Rather, the skins are the byproduct of a popular recreational "resort" activity in China where vacationers and pensioners, mostly from the provinces, participate in a "hunt and kill" where they chase...

Fur and leather from endangered species

They are a very cute animal and seemingly gentle creatures, so I might have some qualms about wearing their fur on that ground. Mink on the other are rather nasty customers--bloodthirsty predators in the wild and utterly vicious in captivity. Thus, their being harvested and farmed for their fur...

    Ralph Lauren Spring 2009

Is it just me, or are the photos on the site linked really too small to discern anything aside from colours and patterns - and not textures or finer details? Ugh.

    Wardrobe Basics (I Tried)

My god. The pinnacle of dressing well is an art, not a science. You can coordinate all you want based on colour wheels and skin tones and whatnot, but if you don't inject some creativity/spontaneity into things you will not go far. Also what a lot of people here are forgetting is that style is...

Leather Soles on nice shoes: to protect or not to protect?

Just starting to get into nice shoes here, but I love the look of a leather sole and could not imagine doing that. Kind of like putting slipcovers on to protect the furniture. As though leather soles look fantastic after they've been walked on. And the better analogy would be putting felt pads...

One of the "AFL's best dressed" players wears "bespoke" suits

Why does Nathan have 45 buttons on his sleeve? Some of the outfits seen on the Footy Show and the Brownlow red carpet are shocking. Almost as bad as you'd see stumbling down Flemington Rd after the races. Brands like Calibre and Farage just add to the 'Cashed up Bogan' trend. Let's face it -...

One of the "AFL's best dressed" players wears "bespoke" suits

not sure what is uglier, the tie or the flat chested broad. That's incredibly rude - I'd be interested to see examples of the stunning specimens you've gone out with.

A recommendation to *anyone* who buys shoes through the internet

Many shoe companies or retailers ask that you trace the outline of your foot and fax or scan/email it across to them, so they may ascertain your size in their company's product. While not perfect, this is a reasonable way to obtain a decent fit without having to try shoes on in person. BUT -...

Did I do OK? Oxxford sport coat from EBay

As to the jacket, I read your OP as seeking more than just affirmation, but a sense of why the choice made was good or bad. I think you received the type of critical analysis you sought and this forum would be very dull very quickly if we responded to requests for critical input by simply saying...

Did I do OK? Oxxford sport coat from EBay

For 69, I think you did great. As to the fit like a tent, not necessarily. And, even if so, if the shoulders and chest work, the sides can be taken in by a competent tailor at relatively low cost. If the shoulders/chest fit, the battle is half won. Otherwise, I've found (rather painfully and...

Did I do OK? Oxxford sport coat from EBay

I disagree with the poster above about the gorge. It looks standard to me. On second inspection, you're right - I was thrown off by the wide lapel width elongating the 'join' between collar and lapel, making the 'notch' somehow look lower than it actually was.

Does anyone have a good tie that is "made in China"?

Incidentally, I had previously bought some nice 3.5 inch Chinese-made ties from Zara but in China itself all the ties I saw were 4 inches and some 3.75 inches. They seem to like their ties BIG in China - the few eBay sellers who sell silk ties direct from China don't ever go below 3.75".

Did I do OK? Oxxford sport coat from EBay

Fit looks big. It's Oxxford, it'll fit like a tent. If you're slim, expect a visit to the tailors. Gorge is low, very very low, and lapel width is on the generous side - likely dates it to late 80s, early 90s. Colour is slightly unusual for a blazer - which it technically isn't, it's a sports...

How do you feel about wearing cloaks on your overcoats? Only superheroes or supervillians wear cloaks. And the Phantom of the Opera.
