Never worked on an MR2, but I have spent plenty of hours hanging over a 914 engine. Sometimes it was easier to remove the engine cover. It reduced banged elbows and heads. :) [edit to add] ...and at times it was sooooo much easier to drop the engine/trans and work on it that way. I got it down...- Al9146

Didn't know about the clutch issue. I love the dog leg 1st gear. You only need it for starting out so it makes sense to keep the most used gears (2-5) in an H pattern.- Al9146

I think many shops may do it that way, but when you think about it, you'd have the frame straightened on a rack to factory specs, all damaged mechanicals replaced, alignment done, then, do the cosmetic bodywork where you can have a little adjustment.
