    Cars We Drive!

I don't mind at all - in fact, I encourage it! I think the process of building a little hot rod is a blast, and I think every car enthusiast should try it.

    Cars We Drive!

Never worked on an MR2, but I have spent plenty of hours hanging over a 914 engine. Sometimes it was easier to remove the engine cover. It reduced banged elbows and heads. :) [edit to add] ...and at times it was sooooo much easier to drop the engine/trans and work on it that way. I got it down...

rtc: sometimes electrical repairs are easy (sensor replacement), and other times you're paying a shop $xxx/hr to try this and that and this other idea, while paying for parts and their guessing. Not trying to completely scare you from a potential buy, but this is something to keep in mind when...

    Cars We Drive!

So I get super busy for a week, catch up on 156 new posts, and GF is still waiting, (but getting wheels fixed in the next few months), and rtc is still trying to choose out a car.... :) fyi, rtc, a neighbour's kid wanted to learn a manual trans for work and he bought a late 2000's Mazda 3. He...

    Cars We Drive!

Speaking as a hardcore track guy with a 996 GT3, don't buy a GT3 for the street. The poor thing will be sad, wasting away on the street, when it can thrive on the track. Try the previously mentioned GT4. You can go to the PCA Whistler weekend, end of Aug. Every new model of Porsche will be...

Didn't know about the clutch issue. I love the dog leg 1st gear. You only need it for starting out so it makes sense to keep the most used gears (2-5) in an H pattern.

    Cars We Drive!

I think many shops may do it that way, but when you think about it, you'd have the frame straightened on a rack to factory specs, all damaged mechanicals replaced, alignment done, then, do the cosmetic bodywork where you can have a little adjustment. A car body may not be 100% symmetrical. Most...

Good luck! I've been in a few wrecks. Never fun. I hope any injuries are minor and recovery time is quick.

A long sit could also mean messed up brakes, bearings, etc too. One of the cruelest things to do to a car is let it sit for a long time. I think there are no pics with that ad for a reason.

I love lightweight cars. I hope it comes out for you. In dreamland, I'd have a very large garage and one of these would be in it. I chuckled at the writing. lol...

The majority of 928s were autos. Manual trans was an option, but few bothered, IIRC.

The Cayman has a fantastic chassis! Good to hear! I've heard wonderful things about that car.

They have changed just a wee bit since then. ;) Easier to drive faster, more creature comforts, etc. If your memory of the old 911 serves you well, then driving a newer car will also allow you to realize just how nimble a real lightweight car is. My GT3 feels like a heavyweight compared to my...

If you're the slowest, just tape one of those giant foam hands with the finger pointing to the left, on your car.

I was hoping the autocross is more like an autocross, rather than follow the leader at a slow pace behind the lead car. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.

    Cars We Drive!

I've done PCA autocrosses and track days and a Porsche dealer track event, along with a Porsche new car lineup street driving event (probably what you are doing, with a basic autocross). My track driving coach is a PSDS instructor, and those instructors are really, really, really good. Best...
