The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Thanks guys. Yes, felt it seemed like a good price and whilst I like the watch at the end of the day if I wear it 3 times a month its as much as I do. Think I’ll sleep on it over the weekend and if I haven’t changed my mind will let it go.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Question for you. I’ve got an AP Royal Oak 15300st, bou about 12 years ago for about £7k. I don’t wear it that much these days and recently had an offer of £28.5k for it from a popular U.K. reseller. Sell it and spend £8-9k on something else (was thinking about a Glashutte Seventies) and bank...

Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata

I was eyeing this last year when we hadn’t decided if we wanted oval or rectangular after moving house. We went rectangle in the end, but this is still nice in a variety of sizes and finishes https://www.skandium.com/collections/dining-tables/products/ch337-338-339-table?variant=30110101700711

Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata

I’m afraid life is too short for silver cutlery (please don’t say Sterling flatware - it’s an abomination) unless you have a footman to polish it for you. I have a family set waiting for me, hopefully a long way into the future, and I can promise you it will be straight off down the auction...

Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata

I’d recommend these for practical everyday use and good design. https://www.davidmellordesign.com/cutlery/stainless-steel/cafe Hackmann cutlery is also very good though less utilitarian.

Wow. Is that some kind of deviant marching band uniform try on?

    Glasses frames

I’ve got a couple of pairs from here (made up as sunglasses) https://www.cubitts.com/ and a main pair from here https://www.ebmeyrowitz.co.uk/ all non-branded.

Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata

It would be 2005 every day with those square plates! I’d recommend something more like this https://www.iittala.com/gb/en/collections/iittala/teema/c/teema/intro

where to find chinos with no stretch

I have some non-stretch chinos from Orvis which were pretty cheap and have held up well. The material is quite stiff and heavy, which makes them more useful in colder weather.

    Lets talk about COFFEE

If you’re drinking mainly ‘big‘ cups of coffee then you will get more utility from using the pour over method so spend your money on a good grinder and pour over gooseneck kettle and spend a bit less on the espresso maker. I make espresso a couple of times a week and use Hario filters daily for...

    Ancient Madder Ties

I have a couple of these: https://keytesilks.com/collection/madders/ They are very good indeed, but i got them a few years ago and I‘m not totally sure where you would get hold of them retail at present.

    First Overcoat

Having worked in the City for nearly 20 years I’m happy to separate myth from fact here. Firstly, there are various different cultures and professions within the City and I think very few of them would raise much of an eyebrow over choice of outerwear, within reason. If you turned up with an...

Why Are Most Boxer Shorts So Uncomfortable!!

Personally I buy cheap from Uniqlo and buy often - the quality is just fine and the elastic holds up well. I’m not going to spend £50 on something that is spending half the day up my arse crack - I will chuck them out after a few months. And If you buy the right size then fit shouldn’t be a...

    Sayers London Experience

Looks like crap to me, sorry. I’d also avoid designer makers such as PS for jewellery of this sort - you’re just paying for branding. Unfortunately there is no way to get good quality cufflinks without paying a reasonable sum. Go to a reputable jeweller or look at makers such as Deakin &...

    Best webcam light

I have a small Anglepoise desk lamp on the other side of the desk to the tablet I use for VCs. It’s highly adjustable and usually allows me to have good lighting for all my calls.

    Surgery on Savile Row

If you’re not happy with it, and if it is fundamentally off, then I would be asking them to remake it. If they don’t want to do that then I’d be telling them they won’t be seeing any more business from me in the future.

    Cufflinks with stones

I would have to disagree. A watch is fundamentally a functional item, so long as it isn’t elaborate or decorative, so it falls outside the realms of jewellery. A tie bar might be acceptable if you need some mechanism for keeping your tie out of the photocopier, whilst you are repairing it...

    Fake/Faux Flowers for House Deorations

Don’t do it. It will look like an old people’s institution. Get some other form of decor if real flowers are too much hassle.

    Cufflinks with stones

Enamel is nice. I wouldn’t personally wear cufflinks with stones, not wishing to look too much like a pimp, but otherwise good cufflinks are perhaps the only acceptable form of men’s jewellery. Deakin & Francis have been my go to make for a few years.
