Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - reviews, pictures, sizing, etc...

I don't think that discussing sizing or quality issues detracts from the theme of the thread. For instance my first few posts were about quality issues, but now that they are resolved and I have a defect-free well-fitting pair of Walnut Strands, I am having a blast and have been following this...

I'm a big fan of Allen Edmonds and what Allen Edmonds is doing with their made in the USA product. That said, they are clearly suffering from quality control issues. We are not doing them, nor the "Made in the USA" marking any favors by putting our fingers in our ears and humming the quality...

I agree with this. First quality shoes should be first quality. Tears or sloppy burnishing are unacceptable, especially at this price point.

Wow, that looks really bad. I'd get them exchanged ASAP. If your rep is being difficult (as mine was in my particular issue), call AE customer service. They had a pair made for me with extra inspections at the factory. The replacement pair I received was perfect, after going through ~3 lemons...

Just a quick update on my issue (stray burnishing on Walnut Strands) from a couple months back. I ended up dealing directly with AE customer service, and they put in a ticket to the factory requesting even burnishing on a new pair. Well, I just received the new pair today and it is flawless -...

That is exactly what I plan on doing. I will test it first on an inexpensive pair, then on a hidden portion of the walnut Strands. But for now, I need to find myself a pair without burnishing in random places.

Thanks for the helpful advice gents! I will be calling AE corporate to exchange these unworn strands (just in case) and will pick up a bottle of the Saphir Renovateur and some darker polish in order to learn how to burnish and remove burnish myself on a not-so-visible area of the shoe. Some of...

I was carefully listening to the advice on how to remove burnishing, but since I am not as experienced as many of the gents on the forum here, I am worried that I will either damage the shoe beyond repair or will fail to remove the burnishing. Either case, I'm sure, will ensure that I am unable...

I realize the stray burnishing is a result of the shoe being handmade (I'm guessing they were made by inky hands holding the side of the shoe), and I am not hugely picky when it comes to leather goods, but when markings are placed randomly and asymmetrically I would certainly consider them flaws...

Just a quick update on the Walnut Strands I had purchased that came with stray burnishing on the front end of the shoe. I went through the stock at two different Nordstroms near my home. After going through 10+ pairs, neither of them seemed to have Walnut Strands with burnishing in places that...

Should I use Is there something I can use that will get the stray burnishing off without (even slightly) damaging the rest of the shoe? I'm worried that it will damage the shoe, rendering it unable to be returned.

Thank you for the advice gents. Perhaps I am pickier than most, but no matter. Since these remain unworn, I will be exchanging them for a pair without the stray burnishing. These will be my only pair in this color, and I'd prefer to have one without noticeable markings on the most visible area...

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been lurking for quite some time and have found this thread to be extraordinarily useful. Here is the photo that you requested: Again, the coloring is slightly off. But there are no such markings on the matching shoe.

Hi folks, new poster here. Quick question for you. I recently purchased a pair of Strands in Walnut. The pair I arrived in the mail (a replacement for a sizing issue) has a big splotch of what looks to be stray burnishing on the left shoe, but not the right. In the attached photo, you will...
