    The Home Ownership Thread

Glad to hear the inspection went well, jbarwick! I wonder if people here have any tips for saving money on home expenses. Some good ideas I've heard are to have a energy use audit, possibly for reduced cost/free if you qualify for a grant, insulating rooms, and using water efficient shower...

A Sam (and David) Hober Tie Appreciation Thread

Very nice orange color. Orange is a hard tie color to pull off, but this one does it well.

    What are you reading?

I was in a rush, needed a book to read, and decided to trust in my library's "Recommended Books" section and basically took the book that had the most compelling cover. Oh well.

Balance in Life, Staying Focused On Life Goals Other Than $

Yes, OP, I just want to also add that you seem to be doing pretty well as is making that kind of moola. So you shouldn't be too hard on yourself - but we all want to make more and succeed better, of course!

Upcoming Funeral - Navy Suit Okay?

So sorry for your coming loss. For a suit, I think as long as it is dark, serious and somber, you should be fine. But I haven't been to too many funerals, thankfully.

The Watch Appreciation Thread (Reviews and Photos of Men's Timepieces by Rolex, Patek Philippe, Brei

Germany has some great brands like Lange & Söhne. It's odd that many other countries simply don't have high end watches, like, afaik, the USA. Guess it's one of those cultural/history of doing it things.

What music are you listening to lately?

The best 2013 pop mashup I've found so far.

    What are you reading?

I just read Commencement. It's a book about 4 women who went to Smith college and are ardent feminists. One is an even more radical feminist. The book wasn't that great.

Is it worth buying 1 expensive watch?

Thanks for sharing, mimo. Very interesting article. I think getting the Omega makes sense, assuming you aren't going to lose it (which is a real consideration for me! Expensive watches can make me nervous). This is because a brand name watch keeps its value a lot better than lesser name...

How to find an investor for a clothing line?

Raising money isn't easy. Especially if it's for a clothing line because there's nothing really original about it. I'd say the best idea is to to friends and family. You may want to research your local area and see if there are angel investors who might be interested.

Some very lovely ties, Gianni. How much do they cost?

What colour tie with black dress shirt?

A black shirt is hard to wear a tie with. Maybe white or orange.

Ask A Question, Get An Answer... - Post All Quick Questions Here (Classic menswear)

For a business interview, it depends. The standard advice is to wear a suit. Also, I wouldn't wear a black tie because it is a bit too formal and stiff. I'd wear a blue tie to indicate trustworthiness so to speak; red is too dominating, unless it's a sales position or one where you need to be...

    Current quality of Ferragamo Tramezza

I haven't been lucky enough to own a pair, but Ferragamo shoes have a great reputation. At Goldman Sachs, though, if you are a junior worker, and you wear them, people will laugh at you (or so I've heard) - because they're supposed to be worn by upper level staff!

Career change -- from finance to biz dev. at startup?

Just want to wish you good luck. Startups can be very interesting and fun to do. They are more risky, though. In Biz dev, you'll be expected to be able to make deals and so on.

    The MBA Thread

How much are you getting as an engineer? With an MBA alone, if it's from a top school, you can hope for something like $110,000 starting salary. To be honest, considering how much it costs, if you're doing well as an engineer already (and you don't want to change for personal reasons), you...

    Poor man's watch thread

Ouch, tough on not keeping the box! Whenever I get a watch resized, I promise myself to keep the links. Yet somehow I always lose them. I gave a watch as a gift to someone, and, oddly enough, it was a perfect fit (I have very thin wrists). But since I'm considering giving my current watch as...
