    Mod to Suedehead

Catch, I am not sure what is going on there. It is possible that you're just getting that weird creasing that sometimes happens on the surface layer of the leather of some shoes or boots. I actually have some weird creasing on the shaft of my NOS MiE steel toes that doesn't look too far off from...

    Mod to Suedehead

Dunno if these have been mentioned before but: Re: vintage madras, try O'Connell's in Buffalo, NY...they have a boatload of trad/ivy items and lots of NOS stuff (most of which isn't listed on their website). For authentic Ivy-style button down collar shirts, Mercer & Sons makes the best I've...

    Mod to Suedehead

Catch, The Gladiator boots were on sale, so I bought them directly from the UK. If they were not on sale, I probably would've just opted for something else. With shipping I paid around ~$220 U.S. for them. Compare that with Gripfast for $240 shipped in the U.S. or most of the nicer Solovair...

    Mod to Suedehead

For anyone that cares, I thought I'd post a quick comparison of some English-Made DM type boots I have. I had a hard time finding good info on Gripfast and Gladiators, so I hope this will help someone. Note that I have treated all the boots with Obenauf's LP. The boots on the left are the now...

    Mod to Suedehead

Re: bleeding madras, that's a trad/ivy staple. I don't think everyone can pull it off though, and I've never been a fan of the patchwork madras thing, but I guess it looks the least objectionable in the form of a pair of shorts. When I lived on the east coast, one style you'd see some folks...

Anyone on here do Real Estate Development? Some questions...

From talking to some of my colleagues that do this type of work, my impression is that RED is very difficult to break into at the moment. A few people I know that worked for private developers, big A&E firms, etc. doing RED related work were laid off post-crash and ended up moving on to lower...

Been perusing this thread, some interesting stuff in here. Figured this was a good place to post questions about boots... Haven't worn DM-style boots in about 15 years but, I recently got a pair of MIE Gripfast steelcaps in oxblood. They have a heavy lugged sole that appeals to me because I...

$1500 for a new suit what do I do?

Find an old-line, independent men's shop that sells Samuelsohn and H.Freeman & Son. You should be able to get a nice, conservative navy interview suit in your budget. If you have anything left over you can put that money toward shirts, ties, shoes, belts, etc. OTR is the way to go unless you're...

    Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

IIRC, the AE premium polish in a tube is a cream/wax combo, so you probably don't need the shoe cream. I would get the shine cloth, especially for black shoes. Don't forget a shoe horn (plastic or metal is fine) and a set of cedar shoe trees.

Treating Musty Moldy Leather. What works for you?

You could try Leather Therapy. If the mold is way down in the footbed, you could try having the shoes totally rebuilt with new cork and new soles.

    Education/Career Direction Help

Law school is a terrible idea for someone in your situation and is highly unlikely to lead to the outcome you think it will. Even the top law schools are a bad bet going forward...there are a ton of '09 and '10 grads from the top 10-15 schools out there still looking for decent work. Many of...

    Suit shoulder problem (pictures inside)

Shoulder alterations are usually not cheap. Either something is wrong with the way that jacket was made or one of your shoulders is shaped oddly.

Input Needed: What's the condition of these shoes?

They'll be on sale again somewhere, just keep an eye out.

Is this (BBBF) really not business-appropriate?

It's not the lapels that bother me so much about that suit (though they are too thin), it's the length and button stance. I'd look into something else. The legal industry is quite conservative (I'm speaking from experience here) and that suit is not a good idea for what you need, period. That...

Input Needed: What's the condition of these shoes?

Amazon has those new for $207. Or at least they did a couple days ago. I'd save your money.

Clarks Desert Boots, Beeswax size 9.5 WORN ONCE

Clarks Desert Boots, Beeswax Leather. Size 9.5. Worn only once. These are great looking boots but seem to run a bit large. Can't keep them as they're too loose on my heels and give me blisters. $60 Shipped. Shipping will be by FedEx or UPS, so no PO Boxes.

NEW "Heartland" Brown Leather Penny Loafers

NEW "Heartland" brand penny loafers, size 9D. Unlined, made in El Salvador. AFAIK these are full grain leather, nice and supple. None of that plastic-y "leather" you see on cheaper loafers like Bass, Sebagos, etc. Soles are leather with a waxy coating and hard black rubber heels. The sizing is...

NEW Alfred Sargent Brown Suede Boots, Size UK 8

ANEW Alfred Sargent boots in dark brown suede. Size UK 8. Made in England. These fit more like dress shoes than workboots and were probably designed to be worn with thin-ish dress socks as opposed to heavy wool socks you might wear with a pair of hiking boots. The toe area is a little tapered...
