Tie colors you would not wear with a charcoal suit?

Ok wow, this thread played out perfectly. Thank you everyone. I can kind of see what you all mean about the earth tones, but it didn't really hit home until you mentioned the earthy colors "conflicting" with the black shoes. I hadn't really thought of that, and I am one who hates seeing black...

Tie colors you would not wear with a charcoal suit?

My favorite suit is a nice dark charcoal three piece from wwchan. I like to wear it to work on Mondays with a white shirt and black shoes, very boring perhaps. With that combo, I'm under the impression that any tie will work with it, so I randomly grab a tie (with my eyes closed of course)...

Do you own more than one Navy suit?

I only own one, but I only have 3 suits. =P Do you own more then one? I wouldn't mind getting another navy suit, but not another solid, maybe if it had a pink pinstripe. If I were rich I might consider getting a db navy though.

Allen Edmonds Experts: Identify this Strands Look-a-like

I second the question on the cordovan. My brains are really telling me that they think it's not shell.

Allen Edmonds Experts: Identify this Strands Look-a-like

Looks kinda like a cross between the parliament (the shoe) and the weybridge (the brogue design)

Things Women Wear That You Hate

Whoever said "espadrilles" were ugly is crazy. They are so so so sexy and cute at the same time.

    Robe Tailoring and Fit

You probably want to get it tailored to add a tartan pattern. I would suggest something with some reds in it, like this.

    dark green pants

Oh ok. Well I hate green and blue combos personally. I just can't stand seeing them together, i guess some people don't feel the same way. I'm not going to argue that I have great fashion sense, that's part of the reason I came here to this site, but a few of the guys I work with wear dark...

    dark green pants

With a black shirt or rather: a predominately black shirt, you would probably look pretty sharp. With an orange shirt you'd look loud but maybe it could be pulled off. A white shirt, a cream shirt, a "fading" yellow shirt. Just don't do blue...

An observation about the changes in dress

Someone at my work always wears suits and odd jackets, however: without a tie. When he wears the suits like that, it makes me cringe. When he wears the odd jackets like that (casual fridays) it makes me think he's dressing for the clubs or something. Pairing trainers with a suit, unless for a...

Question about tailoring prices for shirts.

He would keep them as double seam as far as I can tell. I think I'm going to fly down there and have him do it again, save myself some money. Sucks to add another 100 bucks to my cost like that for the tickets, but cheaper than adding the 1200$ premium VA/DC tailors seem to want to add. I see...

    Tom Selleck

I find that the Tom Selleck mustache is usually the best part of any outfit.

Question about tailoring prices for shirts.

Where I used to live, Florida, my local tailor would bring in the sides of my shirts for $7, this was about 6 months ago. I recently finished losing about 20 pounds that I've had while in a wheel chair for the past 2 years(finally back to walking 9 months ago and working out about 3 months ago)...

I'm mostly just a lurker on these forums, but I live in Reston, VA and would definitely be up for a DC/VA/MD meet.

Ask A Question, Get An Answer... - Post All Quick Questions Here (Classic menswear)

Are sleeve sizes for jackets and shirts measured the same way? For example, when I buy shirts from brooks brothers i buy 16.5/33 (neck/sleeve i assume). Would that mean that I would be wanting a suit jacket that had 32.5 or so sleeves? I feel confused because I see lots of jackets for sale on...

Going in for my first bespoke?

I've never thought that thin lapels were trendy, but after nearly everyone has mentioned them I've decided to rethink them. Going through tons of pictures online, I'm might be starting to agree. And roger that on the pin stripe, enough people are backing up my new decision to change to a grey...

Yea, the DC area; I'll be up there for business so it'll coincide well.

Going in for my first bespoke?

If you are wavering on color, I highly recommend you go with the grey over the black pinstripe. Grey will be a better backdrop for your shirts and ties and a solid grey/navy is less memorable for the color itself, ergo a better choice when you do not have many suits to rotate through.
