    Crockett & Jones availability

Here's an email I received today from our Mr. Huqstable: We have made most if not all the Peal & Co. shoes for brooks over many years. A list would take some time to collate, do you have a particular style in mind? Any questions you have can be e-mailed, phoned 020 7929 2111 or faxed 020...

    Crockett & Jones availability

Can you post the exchange? Not because I'm demanding proof, but because it seems to me that the question admits of different interpretations. C&J may have meant no more than that they make shoes for the Peal line, rather that they make all of them. Which I'm confident they don't, simply from a...

    Crockett & Jones availability

I emailed Crockett & Jones not more than a month ago, and they emailed back that they make the Peal & Co. line for Brooks. May need to get a clarification on this, but he implication was that they brand the entire line.

Do Any of You Guys Own Ties You Won't Wear?

I must admit this publicly. I've never thrown away a tie. And I'm over 50 years old, so I have a lot of ties. I know it's weird, but it's the truth. They remind me of different times and places and people in my life. When I was right out of college I worked for Ralph Lauren, and he was really...

The Peal and Co. shoes at Brooks Brothers are made by C&J. And several of the shoes at Ralph Lauren are made by C&J.

How much does it cost to make a handmade custom suit? (All things being equal)

30 to 40 manhours per suit. $25 (for cotton) to $250 (for high-end wool) per yard. About 4 to 4.5 yards for a suit. The main variable will be the labor cost. There are tailors that will work for $20 an hour, other for a $100 or more. So... from $600 to whatever the market will tolerate.

What's the most you will spend on shoes?

A $700 or $750 stop on the poll might also be waranted. A lot of shoes today are over 500 but under 700. There seems to be one more notch in pricing before you hit a grand.

    Pockets on Dress Shirts

Yes, a pocket on a BD Shirt for me. No pocket on a dress shirt to be worn with a suit or jacket. Casual shirts can go either way for me--depending on what I'm doing. If I need a place to store my sunglasses, if I don't have a coat or jacket, etc.

    Joseph Abboud?

Only early on when Abboud was introduced as a house brand of Nordstroms. Quality is decidedly middle-of-the-road. Fused canvases. Several short-cuts in terms of quality. Unremarkable styling.

Isaia Bargain and a Question About Stances

Unless you started wearing metallic trousers in the spring because GQ recommended it, I wouldn't worry about whether someone said 3 button suits are in or out. They've been with us for decades and aren't going anywhere. True for two button as well. They aren't going anywhere either.

    tassel loafers and suits

Yes. It was directly across the street from where it is today. This was in 1975. It was a stand-alone, inside-the-store shop. There were only two sides to the store. Polo on one side and European clothes on the other.

    tassel loafers and suits

When I first got out of college I worked at Wilkes Bashford in San Francisco. They had one of only two Polo shops in the country at the time. Ralph Lauren visited frequently. He invariably wore tassel loafers with a grey birds eye suit or a glen plaid suit.

    Cuff Link Damage

Lucky Strike, until I realised you were laying your tie across your wrist in some photos, I was under the impression that you had an amazing collection of garish overcoats. I thought one was a table cloth.
