I usually look for a skill set that our company does not have, and then use the compulsory training/professional development policy our company has to fund my training.

Ahh well, I'll add to it, since I wasn't on here when it started. I have a PhD in mining rock mechanics. My business card takes the following form. First Name Last Name BE (Hons) Mining, PhD, Professional Affiliations Position I don't use the Dr in front of my name on the card. I'll only use it if I'm filling out forms - I don't introduce myself as Dr so and so in a social environment. Too wanky and invariably leads to the question about what field of...
Haha well I'd be steering clear of that then. Don't know about you, but there is no way in hell I'd be going to Afghanistan for an annual salary of $65k. Its not all about money (well yeah it is mostly but there are some things you have to weigh up). If you work in a specialist field, then you will have no problems getting another job, considering as you said companies are hiring again. I have had some terrific job offers, but when I dug a bit deeper I found...

I think you made the right choice at staying at your current place. For the time being. You will want a hefty increase to go to Afghanistan. I wouldn't go, not for the money that you are on and for what that company is probably getting from your government contract. My boss tried to send me to the salt ranges in Pakistan. I flatly refused, my salary isn't worth going to potential mining site, accompanied by miny army of armed guards. Find out what company policy is...
wtf is it with the chinese and their habits? In my last job, I got a chinese guy stuck in my office. From day one there were issues. He would literally yell into the phone in chinese with no regard for anybody else, he would be constantly coughing-clearing throat-snorting-burping, and the one that sent me beserk was when he starting farting every few minutes. My rant at him was enough to bring the boss running down the hall. And its not like I pent up all the anger...
Mining/Geotechnical Engineering Consultant. I design open pit and underground mines for coal, gold and iron ore.

Whether Bose is crap or not is entirely subjective to the listener. Some people simply do not give a crap about acoustic processing, fiddling or enhancements, be it good or bad. MY ears like the Bose sound, but my wallet isn't entirely sure. There are much better value products, but at the end of the day my ears tell me I like the Bose sound but I probably wouldn't buy a lifestyle system because they are overpriced. I have a set of Bose on-ear headphones which like...
