i hate that about online shopping, too. some places have good customer service, which makes a huge difference. my trouser size is 28x30, and i find that an 11.75'' front rise and an 8'' leg opening are ideal.
oh boy, you don't want to go down that rabbit hole. quick and dirty: use the long end of the zoom to avoid reflections as much as possible and hope there's enough light. for white balance, get one of those whibal keychains and take a test shot next to the artwork. it won't be perfect, but it'll be decent.
the river.
tuki west point chinos. i'm going to have to try these on at sw and figure out how to get them in heather gray or midnight. http://wallsbridges.blog110.fc2.com/blog-entry-471.html
Either new or newish. Nothing with the inseam hemmed shorter than 30'', or fades from wallets and cellphones.
are they slim fit, or are they actually regular fit, just slimmer than what an orvis customer is used to? norse projects aros heavy chino: they say it has a "classic high rise," but the measurements indicate a low rise. http://www.norsestore.com/commodity/12373
levi's made and crafted high chinos. good grief, they call a regular rise "high". would have to get these tailored a bit as they are too wide. not sure about the color. http://www.sukauto.com/art/levi-s-made-crafted-high-chino-golden-brown.php
hmm, the edwin 55 chinos are described as having either a low front rise or a regular rise, and a relaxed, tapered fit. not sure about this one.
olive chinos from john lofgren & co. too bad they don't make them in my size. =( http://www.speedway-shop.com/product/1167
those are slim fit, not regular fit.
