Quote: I have really gotten into their tshirts, and one thing you may not have noticed is their shirts have 2 different fits. There is the basic tshirt, which is not slim fitting, and then there is a second fit, called either slim fit or modern fit or whatever, and trust me, its plenty tight. I love really tight undershirts, and I am a pretty thin guy, and they fit like a glove. Another nice thing is the slim fit versions are cut a bit shorter. I love...
An order from American Apparel came yesterday. I've ordered their Ts before and was impressed, so this time I tried the "Charlie-O" Leisure-style shirt. Nice. But mine's a little too big. I'm debating whether to send it back or not. I ordered a size up becuase the website said the shirt was only ~19.25" wide in size Medium. (Most Mediums are around 20" which fit me exactly.) It's also a stretchy fabric called terry cloth, which I didn't notice when I ordered. Do you...
Quote: There is a certain amount of trial and error with Jantzen, part of the proceess really. Unfortunately, their communication is horrid which does not help. However, after a first order of a single shirt it should be fairly easy to make necessary adjustments. Communication...I've noticed. Not even going to bother with emails/phoning. I've also noticed that when others post their first Jantzen shirts, the shoulders usually don't fit right and the...
Quote: To start, I might go with a twill since IMO they look more expensive, are softer, less likely to wrinkle, etc. Broadcloths are great -- a true staple -- but something just really makes me want to touch and wear my twill shirts. My current Jantzen collection is about 50/50 twill/broadcloth. What type of pattern are you looking for? Conservative pinstripe, gingham, windows? Yeah, I like twill too, and that's what I'm going to get first. I really...
After reading all the good things said about Jantzen, I want a "piece of the pie." But I need some help on fabrics/weaves, as I'm kind of new to this shirt thing and feel a little overwhelmed. I know what twill and herringbone are, for instance, but what's French oxford (as opposed to just oxford)? What does Jantzen mean by just "plain cotton"? Further, which weaves are appropriate for which occasions? Some must be seasonal, while others year-around; some must be more...
Are the sizes labeled on a dress shirt the true ones when the shirt is new, or is the shirt slightly bigger to account for shrinkage?
Quote: However, at their full retail of $120-140, you can do much better. Sorry to butt in, but if any of you guys had, say, $100-150 to spend on a shirt (the only other constraint being that you had to pay full retail), what would you get? What's the best value for a new, decent, slimmer-fitting shirt?
Quote: Let us know what you go with. What shoes did you decide on? I will.... I'm just going out tomorrow to look for some decent-looking black cap toes. I'll try Nordstrom Rack first, though I doubt I'll find anything. And there's a Johnston & Murphy store by my house. Maybe Macy's....
Quote: By the way, make sure you have some good navy socks. Already on it. Thanks.
Hi guys, You helped me before with shoes and a suit, and I'm grateful, but I need just one more thing: shirt/tie ideas. This is for a wedding I'll be attending in a couple of weeks. I already have a navy suit and am getting black shoes tomorrow. What do you suggest for shirt and tie? Is a white shirt too plain? I'm a slim guy, 6' tall, southern European (oval-shaped face, dark hair and eyes, tan easily; "medium contrast" according to Flusser), 31 years old (but I look a...
