Hey all,    Just wanted to ask because I'm in the market for a new overcoat - and I am thinking of going the tailored route (I live in Hong Kong so it's readily accessible).   How does the amount of workmanship in an overcoat compare to that of a suit? I'm asking because I've been comparing the prices across different "tiers" of tailors. A Zegna trofeo suit has been quoted to me at $10,000 - $11,000 HKD (~USD $1200) at a "mid range" tailor and $12,000 - $14,000 (~USD...
One thing I wanted to get your opinion on though - I've been getting quite a lot of stuff made by Hong Kong tailors - Y William Yu and Baroman, and when I compare the interior structure and canvassing of the suits, they seem to be extremely thin, especially when compared with offerings from the likes of Tom Ford and Ermengildo Zegna. The former seem to have almost wafer thin canvassing whereas the interiors of the latter seems to be much thicker, with a certain "give"...
I'm a little late, but thank you Svenn for the advice!
I'm pretty happy with the cost. It cost 6900 HKD, USD 890. Fully canvassed, fully lined, and with Holland and Sherry Cotton/Modal velvet. I was shocked by the price because when I went around to other tailors (like the less well regarded Tai Pan Row), they quoted me USD 1900 for a jacket made of the Holland and Sherry material. Apparently Y William Yu is the distributor for HK and Shanghai, so is able to offer wholesale prices to his customers (though this price...
PM'ed! Also, is it actually possible to lower button stance?
Thanks for the feedback guys! Though it seems like the ticket pocket and the hacking pockets are not getting much love here! The jacket was made by Y William Yu in Hong Kong. As I said, for a first try, I am very pleased with the work and will definitely be heading back. It also helps that the guy in charge (Andy) is a very nice and helpful man.    Will post pictures of the back asap.
Yeah, these are my thoughts exactly. The jacket was made by Y William Yu in Hong Kong, and overall, I'm very pleased with it, especially as it is the first attempt. From what I have read on SF, first tries are seldom perfect!    I tried wearing higher trousers, https://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/403819_10151072817707354_1908956298_n.jpg , what do you think? Does it still look like it's made for someone shorter?
Thanks Hugh and Mario! Yes, I did get the feeling it was a bit short. Do you think it's because the jacket length itself is short or (as I thought), the button stance is a tad too high?    G
Hi guys, first time doing a please critique my jacket. I just got this jacket and would really appreciate any feedback!    Close-up:   https://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/483004_10151071081212354_942433214_n.jpg   Afar unbuttoned:    https://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/553360_10151071081532354_1585605283_n.jpg   Afar buttoned:   https://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/166067_10151071081902354_113154231_n.jpg   Please let me know...
Hi, thanks for the advice! Could you elaborate on why it is the best? Would 100% cotton velvet drape better or would the modal allwo the fabric to drape better?
