View Full Version : Should there be seperate buy/sell's for mens clothing and streetwear? breakfasteatre April 10th, 2008, 07:32 AM I hope this will be of value to the administration Jaredg April 10th, 2008, 07:53 AM Only possible concern is how do you define one or the other? There are many clothes/shoes that blur the line. overdog April 10th, 2008, 08:07 AM This was already discussed in this thread (http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=58862), and the mods have said they would not create any more subforums. JohnnyLaw April 10th, 2008, 08:09 AM I'm in favor of it. Many people will end up browsing both subforums anyways and we won't have to hear the cranky old guys complaining that all the threads selling APC jeans are preventing them from shopping for their Oxxford suits in peace. JohnnyLaw April 10th, 2008, 08:11 AM overdog, says j in this (http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=62163&page=4) thead: [re: streetwear B&S vs. MC b&s] Not exactly, just that we never did it. It's probably a good idea. We'd have to make two subforums for B&S and it would make slightly more work for sellers and might reduce traffic for them, but who knows what the net effect would be. I'm not against it at all personally. Maybe we [someone] should make a poll ("should B&S be split between MC and SW&D?"). So it is not out of the question. waitwhat April 10th, 2008, 11:06 PM I think a more useful division would be by size. That would make finding items you can use much easier. You could also have a sub-forum for one-size-fits-all (eg. scarf) dshack April 10th, 2008, 11:26 PM A division by sizing would be badass. One way to do it would be to get forumgoers to unify their tag usage (and use more tags). ie making pants ##x##, suits (##R, ##S), using (xsmall, small, med, large), etc. j April 10th, 2008, 11:51 PM Problem there is that then every item needs its own thread, and listing a whole bunch of stuff would be a serious pain, and clog up the database. I think there may be a better way around all this, but I have to look into it a bit more... basically a forum-integrated classifieds system. I just don't want to deviate too much from the forum format or have the items outside the database for the forum, since the B&S actually contains a fair bit of useful info. dshack April 11th, 2008, 12:00 AM not if people just tag their threads with all the sizes contained therein...then anyone could just click the tag for their size and get all the threads containing applicable items. j April 11th, 2008, 12:06 AM Oh yeah, definitely, no problem with that idea if people will do it. Maybe there's a way to make a set tag list for B&S so people can click a grid of standardized sizing tags and keep it more uniform, and easier to use at the same time. Basically just XS S M L XL XXL XXXL, 36S 36R 36L etc., 32W 33W etc. (pants waist), 32 inseam 34 inseam (or something), etc. etc. with check boxes, in multi-select form fields, or as a Flash thing or something. landho April 11th, 2008, 12:10 AM Yes, especially since you can't search for anything with less than four characters. This makes it difficult to search by size and also for certain items (like APC, RRL, NDC, etc.). zyg0te April 11th, 2008, 02:26 AM I think a separate FS and WTB would be better... Too many posts with people looking for the most obscure thing. Clench Million April 11th, 2008, 08:00 AM I think a separate FS and WTB would be better... Too many posts with people looking for the most obscure thing. Just to float an idea here.... what about having mass threads for a few oft-requested items? For example, raw denim or allen edmonds shoes or maybe even more specific (size 40-42 suits, size 10-11 shoes, etc.) I think that would clear up a lot of the clutter. Both WTB threads and sale threads for one item. That way a user could easily find items he is looking for but can't search for (since you can't search for 40R or 11.5D) and sellers wouldn't have to worry about always bumping their threads because the mass thread would get bumped with regularity. Although perhaps the front page would become completely cluttered with such threads. I dunno. BrettChaotix April 11th, 2008, 08:37 AM Basically just XS S M L XL XXL XXXL, 36S 36R 36L etc., 32W 33W etc. (pants waist), 32 inseam 34 inseam (or something), etc. etc. with check boxes, in multi-select form fields, or as a Flash thing or something. Yikes - this could create a few extra headaches.... imagine someone posting a pair of 31" waist APCs and then the post-stretch measurement makes them fit more like a 32 or 33. Or a pair of Sugar Cains tagged a certain size but either soak-shrunk or not.... You could be searching the wrong sizes and miss out. the etruscan April 11th, 2008, 08:48 AM There's a lot of overlap. Many of us wear both. This just adds overhead and inconvenience. Also, there are plenty of items that could easily be put in either. Do you now clone them? (For instance, Alden 4065 boots go well with trousers and jackets as well as jeans and t-shirts). |
