View Full Version : "Why was my thread locked?!!"
j June 18th, 2009, 05:10 PM I get this question a lot.
Because:
* You bumped your thread by saying "bump"
* You bumped it by posting more pics or measurements in a reply to the OP
* You bumped it by answering a question in a reply to the OP
* You bumped it to say "item x sold"
* You bumped it to say "somebody buy these please"
* You bumped it for any other reason other than a significant (5-10%) price reduction, added items, or move to ebay at low starting bid
* You bumped it to say "PM sent" or anything like that
* You bumped it
* You bumped it
* You bumped it
* You bumped it, "but only once per day/week/whatever" (?!!!!!??!??!!!)
* You bumped it for _____ reason
* You bumped it because you can't/won't read/follow rules
* You bumped it because you want to drive us all crazy and cause us more hassle
GET THE IDEA?! QUIT IT. Deleting your bumps and closing your threads is a pain and it makes me feel stupid when I have to spend my time doing it despite being quite clear about the rules. The other mods don't enjoy it either. Do you think maybe you could stop now? THANKS.
BTW, if you PM/email me this question, I will generally just ignore it because the rules are here to see. Then again, if you're reading this, you shouldn't have any reason to PM or email me this question, so I suppose this addendum is pointless.

Addendum: additional items or "items moved to ebay", assuming they are not used to game the system, are acceptable reasons to bump a thread. (4/30/10)

i dont really understand the reasoning behind the bolded above, i dont mean to try to argue or be facetious, but just am concerned as i am known to do this, or perhaps i am just reading it wrong:
i cant post any additional info about my item in a later reply?
or let say, there needed to be a correction of some sort, i rather have the thread bumped to let vying customers know, instead of maybe them thinking they should pass because the info was originally wrong. (editing the first post , won't signal anything to the prospective buyers)
and the second one, if someone asks somethig something, i cant reply to answer back? so, if he asks, is the inside label say 'brioni for saks fifth?" i cant reply back affirming it , but only add it into the original post?
thanks

Sho'nuff is exactly right and his statements are completely rational.:teach:

Correct. Remember, you could always update your thread title to say "Updated (today's date)" if you wanted to signal new info. Otherwise, we need price drops or new items to bump a thread.
incastoutcast March 24th, 2010, 01:53 PM ^I, for one, think that's completely reasonable. Reading the rules post, the significant price drop isn't actually that huge, it's not unreasonable to just drop the price when you add new info, then you can bump with "price drop, measurements added/adjusted, whatever" (that said, if you don't realize that you can edit the thread title by showing only the OP then clicking edit, you might not understand the "update" comment above.)
I did have a question, though - can I bump for a new item added to an ongoing sale thread?
Thanks,
Peter

Yes, new item added is reasonable, as the alternative would be starting a new thread for it. Keep in mind though that there is a limited time in which you can edit your thread, so you don't want to use the same one for months.

Not in the B&S forums, unless you are adding items, dropping prices, or moving to ebay with a low starting price.
GinoAGC June 15th, 2010, 01:39 PM My thread was locked because I bumped my thread with a price drop that some member deemed not large enough. Is there a specific percentage that a price has to be dropped in order to avoid this from happening?
j June 15th, 2010, 02:17 PM 5% minimum.
omjk July 4th, 2010, 01:52 PM Asked in the same spirit as Sho'nuff, would you explain why we cannot reply to our own threads, especially where the issue raised is of general significance?

By allowing replying to a thread, many can game the system. For example, leave out details that beg questions. If you need to answer any question, edit your original thread.
